Eric Klinkner, Principal

Eric founded Eric Klinkner Energy Consulting in 2022 to provide expert services in electric power integrated resource planning and customer program design, including transportation electrification and efficiency/demand management.

Prior to forming Eric Klinkner Energy Consulting, he served as Deputy General Manager of Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) and has worked in the municipal utility industry since 1992. His utility experience covers a wide range of areas including power resources, customer programs and marketing, business planning, and rate development.

When hired by PWP in 1995, Eric became immersed in preparing PWP to compete in California’s deregulated utility environment. Eric helped prepare business and financial plans, and led development and implementation of procedures and systems necessary to operate in the California Independent System Operator (CAISO). He has extensive experience creating and supporting numerous integrated resource plans and has managed power generation, distribution system, and energy trading/scheduling operations as well as critical customer-facing programs including transportation electrification, energy efficiency, and low-income assistance. Eric was responsible for Customer Relations/Marketing and Regulatory/Legislative Affairs, and provided leadership for many cross-divisional initiatives, including environmental policy and transportation electrification program development. During his career at PWP, Eric has served as Interim General Manager, Assistant General Manager of the Power Supply Division, Interim Assistant General Manager of the Water Division, Wholesale Power Operations Manager/Principal Engineer, and Resource Planning Engineer/Associate Engineer.

Eric earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering at California State University Northridge with emphasis in thermodynamics and system simulation/numerical methods.
